for our first term design project we had to build an 3D abstract object which communicates an emotion of your choice. I took "pain" as an emotion. To communicate pain successfully, I first went over shapes, textures, colours and materials which makes me think about pain. My object is made out of modelling clay, and because black would have taken all the focus off the detail of the object, I went with brown as my final colour. Silver also demonstrated pain very well, so the shapes I took (twirly shapes, chains etc.) are sliver and mostly on the bottom of the object. My statue has 2 figures on top of each other. The bottom figure communicates how you look when you're in pain ( melting in pain, signs of pain show(the shapes)) and the top figure communicates how you feel when you're in pain (you feel as if everything is upside down and you cant get up). The statue looks as if it is on breaking point because of all the cracks, this is to communicate how close to breaking point some people get when in pain. It looks as if they're melting in pain.
You can't produce a "product" without proper research, planning, organizing and evaluation. We have design journals for that. Mine is obviously in Afrikaans as I am Afrikaans. Here you can see just a few of the planning I did for this project.
